FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about concrete work in Southern California from the Raaw Concrete Inc. team.
How much does a concrete driveway cost per square foot?
Published Southern California pricing for 2025–2026 falls in these ranges. What yours costs depends on the size, the finish, how much the old slab has to come out and how easily a truck can reach the pour.
- Standard Broom Finish
- $10–$18 / sq ft
- Stamped Or Colored
- $15–$28 / sq ft
- Removing The Old Slab
- $2–$6 / sq ft
Do I need a permit for a concrete driveway or patio in Southern California?
Usually not, for an at-grade patio or a driveway replacement on your own property: the California Residential Code exempts sidewalks and driveways, and individual cities can amend that.
- Patio Or Driveway On Private Property
- Usually exempt
- Approach, Curb Cut Or Sidewalk
- Encroachment permit
- Slab Under A Garage Or ADU
- Building permit
How long before you can walk or drive on new concrete?
Strength comes from curing, not from drying, so hot weather sets the surface faster without making the slab ready sooner. Keep trucks, RVs and trailers off until the full 28 days.
- Walk On It
- 24–48 hours
- Park A Car On It
- 14 days
- Full Cure
- 28 days
Can a cracked concrete driveway be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
Hairline cracks that stay tight are cosmetic, and one lifted or spalled panel can usually be repaired or resurfaced. Cracks across several panels, a vertical step or heaving mean the base underneath has failed, and a patch over a failed base fails with it.
- Repair Or Resurface A Single Panel
- $3–$10 / sq ft
What should I check before hiring any concrete contractor in California?
Check that the license is active and carries the right classification, and that workers' compensation is on file, at cslb.ca.gov. Then ask for an itemized bid stating thickness, base, reinforcement, joint layout, curing and timeline.
- Classification For Flatwork And Slabs
- C-8 Concrete
- Jobs That Need A License
- $1,000 or more
